Is this restaurant in any manner related to the Wongs Chinese on Tooting High Street from the late 1990's because their Peking Duck was the best I have ever had?

Now named Cozy Woods Chinese restaurant, it's still got good food at a very good price. Speaking as an American (Chinese) tourist, the prices seemed more than reasonable for the amount of food you get. Had takeout (or takeaway as they call it here), it was all tasty and not westernized (normally would have said Americanized, but I don't know if they do it in the UK like they do in the US). Looks like a small, family run place, with an older teen running the front, parents in the back, which are often the best.

This is a hidden gem in Streatham. Perfect for small groups and large groups too. Not only is it BYOB (Bring Your Own Booze), but the food is very well priced. When ordering from the menu, we usually order a number of main dishes and share these between the table making it perfect to share with friends. All in all a great night when looking after the pennies.

We came to find Mrs Wong's because rice republic was closed one night. We got a shrimp and vegetables dish, which was pretty good. The inside of the place was a bit drab and depressing. There was also water dripping on the table from somewhere, which was a little strange. It's BYOB so we brought in some tall boys. I'm not sure if I'll come back to dine in, but might do a takeaway!

There a few Chinese Restaurants and takeaways on a small patch of Streatham High Road, and so Mrs Wong's was the latest that I have tried. The restaurant is a long established family business that has been in existence for more than 30 years. It is always busy on Saturday nights but quieter earlier in the week. The food itself is really good. Our group of four ordered a range of dishes of which I tasted Peking Duck and Crispy Beef. The total bill for food for four people came to just over £40 which was unbelievable value for a sit down meal in London. They have a BYOB licence which also helps keep costs down. There is not much to separate it from Rice Republic a couple of doors up the road. The interior in Mrs Wong's is slightly shabbier meaning that I would be more inclined to get a takeaway from here and eat in the other. But overall I will be happy to come back and try some more of the menu!

This is a Streatham institution. It's like eating in Mrs Wongs living room! And it's all so cheap, you can afford to get a lot of little dishes to share. As always with me, loses a star for not enough veggie options. Some tofu would be nice, I'm sure they'd cook it awesomely.

Great Chinese restaurant. Excellent quality food and friendly staff. Would come here regularly even if it wasn't local.

A great family restaurant, right in the heart of Streatham. There is usually a bit of parking to be found in Gleneldon Road, or there are plenty of bus routes right outside the door (Streatham garage is just down the hill). Only when you move away do you realise what you are missing, and having now left London, Mrs Wong's is in my top three most missed places. The food is great, really excellent. Dumplings are soft and meaty at once, while the Char Siu is perfect. The service is very friendly, and all at a reasonable price. It's probably not the best Chinese food in South London, but in Streatham it's an institution. Hard to fault the place, but I'll knock off one star for the slightly noisy payphone in the entrance hall, where all the takeaway orders get rung in!

Families will appreciate the kid-friendly environment, while groups can enjoy the spacious seating that enhances the dining experience.

The menu is filled with tempting dishes, including some crowd favorites like Peking Duck and Crispy Beef, which consistently receive high praise from customers. The combination of great food and affordability makes it perfect for both small gatherings and festive celebrations.

  • Delicious Authentic Dishes: The food is prepared with a genuine touch, showcasing flavors that resonate with the essence of traditional Chinese cuisine.
  • Affordability: With a total bill of just over £40 for four people, diners can savor a variety of dishes without financial strain, similar to experiences shared by Matt B.
  • Casual Atmosphere: While some reviews noted the interior's simplicity, customers often express that the heart of the experience lies in the food rather than the decor.

As you step into Mrs Wong’s, the familial charm and aromas envelop you, reminding patrons of home-cooked meals and shared laughter. It’s not just a place to eat; it’s a venue that fosters community and connection. While some diners, like Julia D., might lean towards takeaway for its convenience, many agree on one thing—the quality of the food is what truly matters.
